Fudge has sweet taste of success
FUDGE fanatic Amanda Hellyer has turned her sweet tooth into a thriving home business.
When her daughter Laura was born, Ms Hellyer was faced with a choice to either find a babysitter and look for work or set up a home micro-business doing what she loves most.
Six months and hundreds of kilos of chocolate later, Amanda's Fudge Factory is running at full-throttle.
"I've been amazed by just how much fudge I've been selling," Ms Hellyer said.
"The growth of Toowoomba's market scene has been huge over the past six months.
"At the Mummy Tree Markets, I usually sell about 60kg of fudge.
"For the normal Toowoomba markets I usually do about 40kg."
There is no secret to the Fudge Factory's success.
The sprawling assortment of flavoured fudges are just delicious.
The successful experiment is characteristic of a new wave of crafty Toowoomba women turning their creative skills into cash.
"If there are mothers out there searching for a business to start, I say go for it," she said.
"Find the thing you're best at doing and turn it into a business."
