A FUEL tanker has rolled over on the Flinders Highway, 20kms east of Charters Towers.

It's understood the tanker was heading down a service road, when it rolled down an embankment near the Burdekin Duck Roadhouse.

The driver of the tanker has escaped the crash with only minor injuries and is currently being looked at by paramedics.

It is understood Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will transfer fuel from the tanker to another one, before righting the truck.

The Flinders Highway is still open at this stage, with no closures expected.
