Rocky's Uncle Chunt tells Call of Duty where it went wrong

WHEN it comes to gaming and pop culture, Chris Hunt says it's in his blood.

The Rockhampton gaming, pop culture and movie guru, who runs YouTube channel Uncle Chunt, yesterday voiced his opinion on the new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer which has faced criticism from gamers across the globe.

A teaser trailer for the new futuristic version of the game was released on May 2 and has since received over 1.8 million 'dislikes' on YouTube, making it one of the most disliked trailers in history.

The trailer for Battlefield 1, which is considered to be direct competition for COD, was released over the weekend and has since posted 1.2 million 'likes' on YouTube which makes it the most liked gaming trailer of all time.

Mr Hunt said the considerable popularity gap between the two games came down to Battlefield 1 developers actually listening to fan feedback.

"A lot of people are disappointed with Call of Duty because the fans wanted to the game to go back to WWI warfare and instead the developers went to space," Mr Hunt said.

"I haven't been a fan of COD since Modern Warfare 2, that's basically when I stopped playing it.

"There is a lot of power-play between the COD and Battlefield camps. I'm leaning more towards Battlefield 1, their trailer really sold me and they are giving us what we wanted whereas COD is doing more a futuristic theme."

Mr Hunt isn't the only local gamer disappointed with the COD: Infinite Warfare trailer with gamers Sam Blackman and Harry Rowe sharing a similar view.

Mr Blackman, who first picked up a controller as a child and spends on average 20 hours a week gaming, was optimistic about the new COD release.

"I play first person shooters such as Call of Duty and Battlefield but I also play third person shooters such as Gears of War which is another big game to come out this year," Mr Blackman said.

"And the reason I think that the new (COD) game is getting such negative reviews is because of the futuristic theme that the last few games have had.

"I'm keen to see where this game goes; it's adding new elements like space battles which will be interesting.

"I'm also keen for the new remake of the first Modern Warfare game. That's considered to be one of the best Call of Duties in the franchise."

Mr Blackman was also excited about the release of Battlefield 1.

"Well it's been a while since a big first person shooter has gone back to the First World War. And the game play snippets that are shown in the trailer look amazing," he said.

"A lot of my friends and people who game online all miss old school shooters and don't like futuristic shooters.

"Not a lot of game play has been shown off between both games, but I'd probably have to say (I'd choose) Battlefield 1."

On the other hand, Mr Rowe wasn't particularly enthused about either of the games.

"The COD trailer is not good at all," he said.

"I think it (modern/futuristic war) has run its course. No one wants the modern war theme.

"I think the Battlefield 1 trailer looks good however it has let me down a lot in the past and has never lived up to the hype. I think the mechanics will let it down."
