FOREST Glen 18-year-old Ellaine Evans wants to make a name for herself writing and creating video games.

To help her achieve this she is studying the new Bachelor of Creative Industries at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

She said the degree could lead to career opportunities in video game and digital entertainment design, multimedia, performance creation, screen and media, creative communications, design and marketing.

Ms Evans is doing a double major in creative writing and serious game design.

"I want to go more into game writing rather than other design elements," she said

"This degree can be tailored to what I want to do.

"I think gaming will be really interesting, challenging and fulfilling."

The Nambour Christian College graduate was inspired to go into gaming by two of her favourites, fantasy title The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and sci-fi game Mass Effect.

Ms Evans said the storytelling aspect of video games had drawn her in at a young age.

"I want to create something that stands out and has a lot of creativity and originality," she said.

Ms Evans, who achieved an OP3 in 2012 and took a gap year last year, has received a $12,000 USC Vice-Chancellor's Merit Scholarship to assist with her studies.

ELLAINE'S FAVOURITE GAMES

Mass Effect - It's got a really good blend of story elements and action. It's not just about blowing things up. It's really story-driven and characters play a huge role in the game.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - This has lots of nostalgic value for me. It's probably the best in the series.
