Gemfields power outage

A LARGE bird caused an outage to 1559 customers in the Gemfields and surrounding areas on Wednesday at 10.50pm.

The incident occurred around  5km west of Emerald on the main feeder supplying the area.

Upon arriving at the site Ergon crew found a large plane turkey had clashed two power lines together and brought them down.

Crews isolated the fault area and had the majority of customers back on line by 2.40am on Thursday.

The remaining 9 customers were back on line by 12.17pm on Thursday after repaired were completed.

Ergon is investigating the incidence of bird strikes on this feeder.
