Ogilvey leads Australian Open

DEFENDING champion Geoff Ogilvy has sprung from nowhere to seize the clubhouse lead during the final round of the Australian Open at The Lakes.

Ogilvy, who flirted with the cut line on Friday, fired a cracking seven-under-par 65 to charge to nine under for the championship.

The former US Open winner produced six birdies, an eagle on the 528-metre 11th and just one bogey on No.10 to give himself an outside shot of going back-to-back.

Ogilvy trailed young gun Jason Day and 1998 champion Greg Chalmers by two strokes as the joint leaders made the turn on Sunday.

Playing in the last group alongside third-round leader John Senden, Day made a shaky start in his quest for a first tournament win on home soil.
