RISING German star Alexander Zverev looms large for Australia after the two countries were drawn together in the 2018 Davis Cup first round.

If fit, the 20-year-old world No. 4 will likely spearhead the German team alongside older brother Mischa as well as veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber when the two teams meet Down Under next year.

The highlight would be a potential match-up with the younger Zverev and Australia's Nick Kyrgios.

The duo played three times in 2017, with the Aussie twice coming out on top.

This year's finalists - France and Belgium - who face off in Lille in November, have home ties against Netherlands and Hungary respectively, thanks to a new rule that allows the previous year's finalists choice of venue.

The pick of the other first-round clashes is the one between five-times Davis Cup champions Spain who will host 2015 winner and 10-time champions Great Britain.

The ties will take place from February 2-4.

2018 Davis Cup World Group First Round Ties (HOME TEAM FIRST)

Australia v Germany, France v Netherlands, Japan v Italy, Spain v Britain, Kazakhstan v Switzerland, Croatia v Canada, Serbia v USA, Belgium v Hungary
