AUSTRALIAN Regional Media has marked Queensland skipper Cameron Smith's pending record State of Origin appearance with a special presentation.

And it's a celebration you, dear reader, will get to share in too.

A giant portrait of the rugby league great by cartoonist Broelman was given to Smith by the paper at Maroons' training on the Gold Coast yesterday. It acknowledges his 37th game, where he will become the most capped Queensland Origin player, to be played next Wednesday in Sydney.

A copy of the special commemorative poster will appear in next Tuesday's paper for you.

Smith, at a break in training camp, was impressed with Broelman's work.

''This is a nice little piece of memorabilia. You've looked after me there, I've probably got a worse head than that,'' he said.

He would cherish it.

''That'll certainly find a place in my house to hang up and to have a look at for many years.''

He was looking forward to breaking the record.

''Very special. It's never a target or something I set out to do but it's ended up that way.

''Again, I'm very fortunate to play so many games for Queensland.''
