Mystery ghost-like man seen before
KATIE Beck's husband slammed on the brakes, bringing their car skidding to a stop inches from a man walking across the Harwood Bridge.
The man seemed completely undeterred by the speeding car that almost flattened him.
He casually turned his head, and with vacant eyes looked into the windshield before he stepped off the road and disappeared into the night.
"Brad and I looked at each other and said what is this," Ms Beck said.
Ms Beck said they came across the man eight years ago when they were driving to Alstonville to see her mother.
The man looked gothic, dressed in black, had daggy dark hair and was in his late 20s.
She said they saw a flash and then the man, forcing them to brake before he disappeared.
"We didn't think it was a ghost. We did think it was extraordinary a man dressed in black was walking across an isolated bridge in the middle of the night," Ms Beck said.
"It was not until I read the story in Saturday's paper that it clicked."
Two years ago South Grafton man Gary Wait photographed a man stepping out of fog he said was not there before, which ran in Saturday's paper.
"The man was very calm, maybe he wanted to be hit by the car. We were all freaked out about it, we were glad we didn't hit him," Ms Beck said.
Ms Beck said coming from a scientific background, she did not believe in ghosts, but seeing Mr Wait's photo of the man stepping out of the fog made her rethink.
