AN ANNOUNCEMENT has just been made that the Gladstone Hospital will receive $42 million for a brand new emergency room.

It is part of the $800m announced in the budget for upgrading and enhancing hospitals.

Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made the announcement this morning outside the hospital.

The emergency department has not had an upgrade since the 1990s.

Since then the population of Gladstone has doubled.

The new emergency department will have double the capacity growing from 11 rooms to 22.

It is the first of the raft of announcements from Queensland's top politicians that are expected today.

All of the ministers are still in town following yesterday's Community Cabinet Meeting.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, Minister for Infrastructure and Planning has also announced $3.3 million from the State and Federal Governments to flood proof six roads.

The upgrades will be on sections of Tableland Rd, Calliope, Norton Rd in the Boyne Valley, Mt Larcom-Bracewell, Davis, Bindawalla and Gentle Annie Roads.

These will be followed by more announcements; domestic violence funding from Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman who will be at the Women's Health Centre at 1.30pm.

And finally, Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni, Minister Lynham and Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher will be at the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre at 4.30pm for a consultation session.

The session is the first of two and will be used as part of the government's White Paper, tackling the issue of securing payments in the construction industry.
