Like strawberries? Love beer? This is just the treat for you
SERIAL beer inventor and Sunshine Coast Brewery owner Greg Curran has always wanted to make a strawberry beer.
"Because we grow a lot of strawberries on the Coast, it'd be ideal to make strawberry beer here," he said.
"They've been around for hundreds of years," he said. "In Belgium, they do these cherry and raspberry fruit beers."
They were delicious, he said, and completely different to anything else he made.
Mr Curran has created a variety of craft beers, including Czech Mate and Sunshine Coast Brewery Pale Ale which are sold on tap at pubs and in bottles at restaurants across the Coast.
He said he was excited to see how beer drinkers would react to his offering, which was still a few months away because the brewing process was much slower with wild yeast.
Mr Curran's experiments with wild yeast started in 2013 and the batch would likely be ready before the end of the year.
Would you drink strawberry beer?
This poll ended on 31 July 2015.
Yes! What a great idea
Erm, no thanks
I'd give it a try
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
About two months ago, he "got wind" that some strawberry growers were interested in supplying fruit, and was motivated to contact a local grower. "A lot of people knew I had an interest in it," he said.
He lined up a local grower and added a batch of strawberries to his brew, which was by that time one-and-a-half years old, he said.
Mr Curran is planning to release the beer at the Real Food Festival in Maleny in September.
