Goals galore as the Premier League season draws to a close

WEST Ham captain Kevin Nolan and West Brom striker Romelu Lukaku both scored hat-tricks as the Premier League season ended with an avalanche of goals yesterday.

Thirty-six goals were scored in the 10 games, bringing the total scored this season to 1063, just three less than last season.

Lukaku, on loan from Chelsea, took his tally to 17 as West Brom came from 5-2 down to draw 5-5 in Sir Alex Ferguson's 1500th and last game in charge of Manchester United.

Robin van Persie was also on target for the Red Devils, finishing as the leading goal-scoring in the competition with 25.

Nolan scored his treble as the Hammers beat relegated Reading 4-2, but the most important goal of the day was scored by Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny in the 1-0 win at Newcastle.

That ensured his team finished fourth, above arch rival Spurs who won 1-0 at Sunderland, to secure a 16th consecutive season of playing in the Champions League.

Everton lost 2-1 at Chelsea, Southampton drew 1-1 with Stoke, Liverpool beat QPR 1-0, Fulham downed Swansea 3-0, Wigan drew 2-2 with Aston Villa, and Norwich won 3-2 at Manchester City.
