Gold and silver won at 2015 Oceania Athletics Championships
ATHLETICS: Noosa Athletics hurdler and sprinter Samantha Johnson, 15, has returned home with gold and silver medals from her first international meet, the 2015 Oceania Athletics Championships.
Competing for Australia at the championships in Cairns earlier this month, Johnson won a silver medal in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.59 seconds to ensure an all-Australian podium.
A gold medal followed for the member of the under-18 4x100m relay team, along with fellow Queenslanders Katie Colebourne, Emily Bass and Hayley Heel.
Their time of 49.15 seconds was an Oceania record.
"Representing Australia in Cairns was such an awesome experience and I've made so many new friends from other countries," Johnson said.
"I had no expectations going into the championships and to come away with a gold and silver medal at my first international meet is just amazing."
Johnson is back in training, preparing for the Queensland schools' athletics championships before having a well-earned break ahead of next season's Little Athletics and Noosa Athletics, which resumes in September.
