Bowles moves to United

TOOWOOMBA'S Daniel Bowles is upbeat ahead of the start of the 2011-12 A-League season, following his move from Brisbane to Gold Coast.

Gold Coast's A-League campaign begins at home against Wellington on Sunday and while Bowles is unlikely to take part, he remains confident his move can reap rewards.

"It's definitely a move I had to make," Bowles said.

"I couldn't see myself getting much game time had I stayed on and I decided to make the move. There's more opportunities down at the Gold Coast for me this year."

Bowles says he has settled into the new playing structure and while confident he is going to get opportunities for Gold Coast's first team, he is more than happy to bide his time playing in the youth side.

"I've had a full pre-season. I'm feeling pretty confident, I played a full 90 minutes (in a trial match) against Adelaide so I'm in good stead," he said.

"I don't think I'll be starting this weekend but hopefully I get my chance before long."

At least initially, Bowles will come into a Youth League team bursting at the seams with talent. Gold Coast has won the youth championship the last two seasons and many young players have been earmarked for greater things this year.

Bowles is hoping he can be another one of those players to successfully move through Gold Coast's youth side into top-flight football.
