Good Sports kicks off in Emerald

CENTRO Emerald Market's Good Sports campaign kicked off on Saturday, with several local clubs manning stalls in the centre to boost interest in their sports.

Emerald and District Athletics Club member Nicholas Gakowski said he enjoyed telling people about his club's participation in the program.

"We're just advertising athletics," Gakowski said.

"It's good fun - I just really like it."

Gakowski hopes the athletics club can win a share in the $15,000 prize pool on offer.

"It would maybe go towards new sports equipment or something like that," he said.

Clubs will try to collect the most tokens from the centre's retailers during the campaign.

As part of Good Sports, each club will nominate a member for their achievements each week, with the winner earning a $50 gift card, a prize pack and a certificate.

"We get that at the end - I'd be happy (to win)," Gakowski said.

The 10-year-old competes in all athletics events for his club.

"My favourites are probably shot put and high jump," he said.
