Government and Liberal voters out of sync on RET

A GROUP campaigning for solar power says more than half of all Liberal voters surveyed on the Renewable Energy Target want it increased.

Solar Citizens national director Claire O'Rourke was with about 30 protestors outside parliament yesterday urging politicians not to abandon the target.

The group cited a recent poll by The Australia Institute, which found 64% of conservative voters backed increasing the target despite government moves to cut it.

Ms O'Rourke said it was time the political leaders "caught up" with community sentiment on solar and clean energy. Talks on the target between Labor and the government broke down last month.
