Govt working with Tin Can Bay cafe to keep dolphin feeding
A NEW deal with a Tin Can Bay eatery means the future of dolphin feeding in the area, a tourist drawcard, is assured.
Queensland Environment Minister Andrew Powell signed the agreement with Barnacles Cafe, which has been the site of dolphin feeding for 30 years.
Barnacles will still be able to offer the feeding for tourists, as long as it is done responsibly.
"Some of the dolphins that participate in the feeding program have been coming to the Tin Can Bay inlet for many years and know the inlet well with an understanding of water craft and human interaction," Mr Powell said.
"The government will be working with the Tin Can Bay community to ensure a successful feeding program."
Member for Gympie David Gibson said the deal was a win for businesses in the area.
