Grandad in incest allegation bungle

A TOOWOOMBA grandfather was wrongly accused of rape and incest by a government department for 18 months.

The man was refused contact with his granddaughter while he pleaded for the error to be corrected.

The Queensland Department of Child Safety has admitted it mixed up the man's file with that of a criminal jailed for fathering his granddaughter.

But when the Toowoomba man made a kinship carer application he was told he had to prove he was not a rapist or the father of his nine-year-old granddaughter.

The girl was reportedly sent to foster care for several months when her mother was unable to care for her and her grandfather's application to care for her refused.
