Green joins player exodus from the Lions

AFL: Josh Green has become the ninth player to leave the Brisbane Lions since the end of the season after being delisted by the club.

Football manager David Noble confirmed the small forward was surplus to requirements and the Tasmanian is now looking for a fresh start.

"It is disappointing when any player departs, and Josh has given great service to our club,” Noble told lions.com.au.

"We thank him for his time at the club and wish him all the best for his future.”

Green, 24, who played 81 games for the Lions after being drafted at pick 32 in 2010, has been linked with a number of Victorian clubs, including Essendon.

He had said before the season began that he would be keen to extend his contract but he now joins Hugh Beasley, Billy Evans, Josh McGuinness, Jackson Paine and Josh Watts in being delisted.

It had been speculated that the club would be open to trading Green, who was the club's leading goalkicker in 2014 and 2015.

Others who have left the Lions post-season are Justin Clarke, Daniel Merrett and Trent West, who have all retired, and Pearce Hanley, who was traded to the Gold Coast Suns.
