RUGBY LEAGUE: Former Melbourne Storm five-eighth Blake Green is excited to have the opportunity to play alongside halfback Daly Cherry-Evans at the Sea Eagles.

Green returned to Sydney after 50 appearances with the Storm, including this year's grand final.

Injuries forced Manly coach Trent Barrett to use four players at five-eighth - Dylan Walker, Jamie Lyon, Matthew Wright and Apisai Koroisau - in 2016.

Green said he would be happy to take control of the team on-field and let Cherry-Evans play his natural game.

"I think he's at his best when he's running the footy and playing what's in front of him. I'm going to give him the opportunity to do that,” Green said.

"He doesn't have to worry about counting numbers and getting to certain parts of the field, kicking to the right spots. I can take care of all that sort of stuff and he can just play footy.”

Green, 30, said there were similarities between his half at the Storm, Cooper Cronk, and Cherry-Evans.

"I took a lot from Cooper, a lot of technical things from the game, a lot of subtleties with the ball,” he said.

"He works really hard on being direct with the footy, pinpoint with his kicks.

"His preparation is really big for him, I guess that's something I can talk to Chez (Cherry-Evans) about if he ever needs any advice in terms of training or prep for games.

"Hopefully I can prove a good relationship with him and we can get things started nice and early.”
