Man pulled gun on neighbour in argument over escaping pigs

A GLASTONBURY man who put a gun to the head of his 63-year-old neighbour and threatened to kill him, was released from jail yesterday.

The threat was made last August after an ongoing argument about the neighbour's pigs escaping.

"I'll f****ing kill you," Izaac Lee Alford, 22, yelled as he raised a rifle to his neighbour who was sitting in his parked ute at their Glastonbury fence line, the court heard.

The man, who believed he was going to be shot, escaped to nearby neighbours.

Yesterday the defendant, who has been in jail since his arrest six months ago, appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court.

He pleaded guilty to charges of serious assault of a person over 60, threatening violence and unlawful possession of a firearm.

His lawyer told the court his client had learnt a valuable lesson after being in custody for so long.

Magistrate M. Baldwin said the circumstances were distressing.

"People don't threaten to kill people over pigs," she told the defendant.

"People don't threaten to kill people at all - normal people."

She noted the defendant's previous history; including a two convictions of assaulting and obstructing police.

Alford was given a 12-month jail sentence but was released immediately on parole yesterday.

He was also given a six-month suspended jail term for disobeying a court order.
