IT IS the international jewel in the crown of QPAC's 2012 season.
The Hamburg Season sees three cultural and creative feasts, The Hamburg State Opera, Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra and The Hamburg Ballet converge on Brisbane to perform at QPAC this month.
None of the companies have visited Australia before and they haven't toured together since 1976.
Hamburg Season producer Leo Schofield said each were masterpieces that needed to be seen to be believed.
"The first time I saw the Hamburg Ballet dance A Midsummer Night's Dream I was blown away. I think you will be gobsmacked."
The Hamburg Ballet will dance two pieces, the dramatic Nikinsky and Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream.
The orchestra will play one performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 and at their second performance they will be joined by Hamburg State Opera singers for Wagner's Das Rheingold.
"There is a perception of Brisbane not being a lively city in terms of art but I think that has now been blown out of the water.
"To be able to bring these three companies to Brisbane at once, really says something about the state of our city and our audience."
The Hamburg Season is at QPAC from August 23 to September 5. Tickets are available from qpac.com.au or phone 136 246.
