OPENING batsman Aaron Finch has been ruled out of the early stages of Australia's limited-overs tour of India, with Peter Handscomb called up as cover for the injured Victorian.

Having sat out Australia's practice match earlier in the week due to a calf problem, Finch re-aggravated the injury during a warm-up at training in Chennai on Thursday.

The 30-year-old is expected to miss the first few one-day internationals but will remain with the squad for the remainder of the tour in the hope of playing the final two ODIs and three Twenty20s.

Due to Finch's injury, Victorian batsman Handscomb has been called up to the ODI squad. To date, Handscomb has played five ODIs for Australia, with a top score of 82 and average of 22.50.
