ERIN Moran, best known for playing the beloved Joanie Cunningham on the hit sitcom Happy Days, has died at the age of 56.
According to TMZ, Moran's body was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon by authorities in the US state of Indiana.
The actress was born in California in 1960 and had her feature film debut in 1968's How Sweet It Is which starred Debbie Reynolds.
However, it was Moran's role as the witty Joanie Cunningham in the 1970s sitcom Happy Days that shot the actress to stardom.
She was 14 when the show debuted in 1974.
Moran starred in the show until it ended in 1984 after a total of 255 episodes.
Her love story with Scott Baio's character Chachi Arcola had such a fan following they even scored a spin-off called Joanie Loves Chachi however the show only lasted two seasons.
The actress also had brief roles on The Love Boat, Bold and the Beautiful and Murder, She Wrote.
Most recently she appeared on the 2011 reality series Celebrity Fit Club.
Since her Happy Days stardom, the actress struggled with a drinking problem and eventually ended up in an Indiana trailer park with her husband Steve Fleischmann.
According to Page Six, Moran had reportedly been thrown out because of her "hard-partying ways".
Tributes have begun to pour in for the actress including a tweet from her Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler.
