'He carried his baby boy’s casket at the service'

NIXON Tonkins' funeral is something his cousin Simone Valentine will never forget.

It's not just the unbearable tragedy of baby Nixon's death but also the strength Nixon's dad, Marty, showed as he carried his newborn son's casket.

Simone posted a beautiful tribute to the family on Instagram with the most incredibly heartbreaking photo of Marty cradling his precious boy, who passed away just 30 minutes after arriving into the world.

"Meet Marty," the post reads. "He is Nixon's dad - gentle souled, loves his family, is Simone's loving husband."

"Strongest man I've met," Simone continues. "Carried Nixon's casket at his service, and how he made his legs move with the soul-breaking task ahead is seriously a moment I will never forget."

"He works endlessly at his family business, supports [his wife], is a wonderful dad, and to his friends a great mate."

The Coroner's Court in Brisbane is now holding an inquest into Nixon's death after the midwife allegedly fractured his skull during the delivery.

Simone started a My Cause page to raise funds for the family. She hopes the money will help ease the stress of reliving Nixon's tragic death through the inquest, and allow them to spend more time with their younger son, Knox.

"My wish for them is to be able to relax a little, for life to be a little less stressful, to spend more time together as a couple and as a family, to plan for their future, to holiday, attend therapy …" the page reads.

"Helping release them from financial stress is an amazing gift."

Born in June 2014, baby Nixon never got the chance to breathe on his own. Delivered by C-section at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Nixon's skull was allegedly fractured after a midwife used her fingers to help free his head from his mother's pelvis.

He died from head injuries including skull fractures, haemorrhages and brain swelling 30 minutes after he was born. He would have been three this year, and big brother to the Tonkins' second child, two-year-old Knox.
