Head-on collision near Pine Creek kills woman

A HEAD-on collision on Friday night near Pine Creek claimed the life of a woman and left four people hospitalised, including a 13-year-old boy with life threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates that a utility and car collided around 9.30pm on the Bundaberg-Childers Road (Isis Highway), 22km south-west from Bundaberg.

A 38-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car died at the scene.

The 39-year-old male driver, a 15-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy were injured and transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital for treatment.

A baby girl was not injured. All five are from Miles.

It is believed the boy will be flown to Brisbane with critical head injuries and the teenage girl remains in Bundaberg Base Hospital with serious internal injuries.

A 44-year-old man from the Miriam Vale area, the driver and sole occupant of the utility, sustained serious injuries and was also transported to hospital.

The highway was re-opened at 1.15am Saturday, and investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit continue.
