THE BEAUTIFUL waters of Hervey Bay and our gentle giants that visit them will be seen on an international state this week at the major global television convention MIPCOM in Cannes, France.

Produced by veteran program maker Greg Grainger, The Whale Whisperer features the humpback whales of Hervey Bay and their interaction with whale guide Vicki Neville.

As the program is premiered in Cannes, keen interest has been expressed by the giant international network National Geographic with negotiations underway for broadcast to territories around the world.

The Whale Whisperer documents the inspiring relationship between whale lover Vicki and the humpback whales that come to play and socialise in Hervey Bay.

Vicki gets us close for a look at the whale's big repertoire of social play, from peduncle slapping and spy hopping to phenomenal breeches, where whales 11 times the size of an elephant launch themselves skywards like a Polaris missile, only to crash back down onto waves with an enormous splash.

A team of five cinematographers have captured never before seen behaviours over the three month whale season

in the region, all captured in glorious 4K format.
