Hervey Bay woman charged with child stealing

A WOMAN from Hervey Bay has been charged following investigations into a child stealing incident. 

The 33-year-old is one of two women charged on Wednesday after allegedly entering a home in Redlynch in Cairns on August 29 and assaulting a 28-year-old woman.

The women allegedly then took hold of an 11-year-old boy, according to the Cairns Post.

It is alleged the women then took the child to a vehicle outside before leaving with him in the car. 

It is believed the boy was known to the women. 

The Cairns Post has reported that the boy's father was contacted and the boy was found with one of the women at a family restaurant nearby. 

The other woman involved in the alleged incident is from Daisy Hill.

Hervey Bay Police spoke with the two women on Wednesday afternoon and both women were charged with child stealing and burglary.

The Torquay woman was also charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.
