Vince Vaughn caught drink-driving

HOLLYWOOD star Vince Vaughn has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and resisting arrest in a beach town just outside of Los Angeles.

Vaughn, who once dated Jennifer Aniston, was arrested for driving under the influence, according to TMZ.

The incident happened around 4am (6pm AEST) on Sunday in Manhattan Beach, California, the New York Post reports.

He was also reportedly detained for resisting arrest.

The 48-year-old actor is best known for his roles in comedies like Dodgeball and Wedding Crashers but has landed more dramatic roles in recent years such as the drill sergeant in the Oscar-winning Hacksaw Ridge.

Insiders told the gossip site that Vaughn, 48, was taken into custody at a routine checkpoint set up by local police.

He was given a bail of $US5000 ($6500).

Police employee Nisha Bhagat said Vaughn has since been released from custody.

A request for comment from Vaughn's team wasn't immediately returned.

Manhattan Beach police couldn't immediately provide more details.

The actor forged a successful career as a comedic actor after the 1996 cult hit Swingers in which he starred alongside real-life pal Jon Favreau, who wrote the film's screenplay.

But after a string of flops in recent years, Vaughn has moved into more dramatic roles in projects such as HBO's True Detective and the Mel Gibson-directed Hacksaw Ridge.

The actor dated Friends star Jennifer Aniston from 2005 until 2006.

Vaughn has two children with his wife Kyla Weber who he married in 2010.
