Huet reaches his goal
AT JUST 16 years old, Isaiah Huet already stands at 186cm tall.
And he is now standing that bit taller after being chosen for the under-16 Australian Rugby Union Indigenous team.
Huet competed at selection trials on the Gold Coast, playing for the North Queensland team against Western Australia, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Tasmania.
"It was my dream. That was my goal this year, to make the North Queensland Indigenous team and then the Australian team," Huet said.
"I was a bit awestruck. There were a lot more boys there and they were a lot bigger."
Playing at fullback, this was the second appearance at the selection trials for Huet, who was announced in the Australian squad on the last day of the three-day trials.
"I couldn't believe I got picked for it and was the first one announced," he said.
"I played the year before, that's when I was 15. I knew what I was coming into..."
Huet also plays for the Emerald Tigers and in the off season, plays in the Central Highlands rugby union side.
But for now Huet will be kept busy in the U16 Australian Indigenous side, travelling to Sydney in the second week of school holidays and to Belgium and France this time next year.
