Hunt for meatball thief: 'Is that a sub in your pants...?'

A MAN who stuffed a hot meatball sandwich down his pants has sparked a police hunt, with officers appealing to the public to help catch the brazen thief.

A Tewatin grocery store on Saint Andrews Dr set the scene for the hot, meaty subterfuge on Thursday, March 1.

The man entered the store and asked for a meatball sub from the heated food display.

Police said the man then took the sub, walked to the back of the shop and hid the sub in his shorts before walking out without paying.

Once outside, he pulled out the package as he walked.

The shop attendant tried to chase him down, but police said the man "warned off" his pursuer.

It is unclear if the sub was a six-inch or foot-long.

Anyone who knows the man or can help police solve the case should contact Policelink on 131 444 or using the online form.

Crime Stoppers will accept anonymous information on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersqld.com.au.
