Hurricanes give Coles time to beat rib injury

RUGBY: The Hurricanes will wait until match day before deciding whether skipper Dane Coles can play in the blockbuster Super Rugby semi-final clash against the Chiefs in Wellington.

The All Blacks hooker (pictured) has been named in an unchanged Hurricanes team but is still feeling the effects after injuring a rib against the Sharks last weekend.

Coach Chris Boyd will turn to 21-year-old Ricky Riccitelli as hooker if Coles fails to recover sufficiently, leaving Leni Apisai to come on to the Hurricanes' bench.

"Colesy is improving each day and doing everything he can to get himself fit,” Boyd said yesterday afternoon.

"We are hopeful he'll make it to the start line, but if he doesn't we have every confidence in Ricky and Leni to do the job for us.”

The Chiefs won 28-27 when they last clashed with the Hurricanes in round nine in Wellington.
