JOHN Anderson didn't notice when a "substantial" amount of money, bound with a rubber band, fell out of his pocket on the way to a chemist in Casino CBD.

It wasn't until he came back to his car that he realised the money was gone.

He retraced his steps to the Summerland Credit Union and the chemist, and even drove back home to check the money wasn't there.

"I lost it," he said, "and I didn't think I'd get it back."

When Mr Anderson went to the police station, they were very helpful, asking for identification and a description of the money.

And, thankfully, the money was returned to him.

"It's good to know there are honest people," Mr Anderson said.

The police were able to tell him who handed in the money.

Mr Anderson wasted no time buying a carton of beer and bottle of wine and heading to the home of Malcolm Foster.

"The money was on the footpath," Mr Foster said. "My wife and I looked down and there was a $100 note with paper around some more money.

"I took it to the bank and they said to take it to the police."

Mr Foster never once thought about not handing the money in.

"If that was me, I'd like someone to do that for me," he said. "I feel good about myself."
