IF I could have one wish before the elections, it would to see Campbell Newman change seats and put his hand up for either Ipswich West or Ipswich.
Not because I don't like Ian Berry or Sean Choat, but because I know that Newman brings with him the biggest wallet in the Government.
Just think what he could promise us by using the multi millions he has tried to entice Ashgrove voters with.
Firstly, we'd get an arts centre, then we'd get the Ipswich Motorway finished, we'd get the methadone clinic moved out of the CBD and we might even get the promised redevelopment of the Bundamba Racetrack.
As I said in this column a week ago, a government will always throw money at a district seat they need to win and one they know they may just lose by a handful of votes.
While he may deny it, it's as obvious as the thumb on your hand that Newman is trying to buy himself the seat of Ashgrove.
I wonder how the thousands of public servants who were turfed out on their bums are viewing his pork barrelling.
It seems when it comes to trying to save his bum, that money is no worry.
Now he even has the hide to tell us his government will pay for the cycling track they have refused to grant money to, if we all go out and vote for Ian Berry to get back in.
I take that statement as an indication that this election campaign is starting to slip for Newman.
I still can't see them losing overall, but I am now starting to believe that Labor will return as a powerful Opposition and that's what we need to happen as Don Chip said in 1977, "to keep the bastards honest".
