Ikin Joins NQ Cowboys' Board
Former Test and Origin representative Ben Ikin has joined the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys as the club's sixth board member.
Mr Ikin will attend his first board meeting at Cowboys HQ this afternoon where he will be officially welcomed to the club by chairman Laurence Lancini.
"Ben has had an extensive playing career and has also gained commercial experience in rugby league with the Broncos and Titans, as well as in other industries," Mr Lancini said.
"He's also been heavily involved in the media and has a great understanding of where the game is placed and where it needs to head in the future.
"I'm sure he is going to enjoy being part of the Cowboys as we continue what is an exciting era for our club."
Mr Ikin made his top-grade debut with the Gold Coast Seagulls in 1995 and finished his career in 2004 having played 150 NRL matches, 17 State of Origin games for Queensland and two Tests for Australia. He was part of the Broncos' 2000 premiership squad.
Since his retirement, Mr Ikin has worked as the marketing manager of the Kedron Wavell Services Club and as the national business development manager in the marketing department of the Robert Bird Group before joining the Gold Coast Titans where he was general manager of marketing.
He has also been a director of the Broncos Leagues Club and the Rugby League Players Association as well as a member of the NRL Education & Welfare Committee.
In recent times, Mr Ikin has been a commentator and panelist for Fox Sports as well as writing a weekly rugby league column for the Sydney Morning Herald.
"I'm honoured to have the chance to join the Cowboys' board," Mr Ikin said.
"I've admired the way the Cowboys have developed both on and off the field and hope I can help the club become even more successful."
