WHILE thousands enjoyed Saturday night's Riverfire in Brisbane, not everything that sparkles so brightly is so appreciated, with Queensland police recording more than 1400 complaints about illegal fireworks last financial year.
Brisbane Festival organisers estimated 485,000 packed the banks along the Brisbane River at South Bank and the city reach for Riverfire to watch more than 9000 individual fireworks blast into the Spring sky.
But it seems events like Riverfire were not enough for fireworks enthusiasts, with hundreds of complaints every month about fireworks set off illegally.
In the 2014-15 financial year alone, Queensland police received 1430 calls for service.
Of those, 345 were in Brisbane, which meant, on average, almost one call was made per day
