Immigration Minister to investigate detention centre escapes

IMMIGRATION Minister Scott Morrison says he is seeking an investigation into the second escape from Western Australian immigration detention centre in a matter of months.

He will be seeking answers from the facility's private contractor, Serco.

Two Vietnamese detainees escaped from the Yongah Hills Immigration Detention Centre in Northam, 90 kilometres east of Perth, on Friday night.

One person was recaptured within 24 hours, but as of yesterday, the second man remained free from detention.

Four months ago, five men escaped from the same facility, sparking a search that lasted several days.
