Why Coast's fashion festival's rockin'

A TOUCH of rockabilly, a dash of glitzy swimwear and a pinch of vintage elegance makes up the 2011 Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival.

Coast fashionistas will be treated to a showcase of the hottest labels from local and international designers at the fifth showing of the festival.

Founded in 2008, the festival celebrates local talent and features a group show, solo events and international designers.

This year collections range from swimwear to couture to children’s wear and tween creations as well as eco and casual living.

A number of new Sunshine Coast designers will debut their labels at the festival including Jaylah Kade, Izzy McConaghy and Emmy.

Other labels to strut their stuff on the catwalk include Begitta, Eco Diva, Elizabeth De Varga, Eva Lilly Couture, Ivy Rose, San Nizet, Vinco Amor, Vix and Saucy Rose as well as a host of others.

Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival Director Jacinta Richmond said that the calibre of designers this year was astounding.

“I’m just thrilled by whose showing. There are some really amazing emerging designers as well as the tried and tested established labels,” she said. “There’s no-one who’s showing who would look out of place at any of the major cities. And none of the swimwear would look out of place at any of the most exclusive resorts.”

The designs will be available straight off the catwalk at a series of market stores directly after the show.

The festival kicks off with the group show on September 2 at Lake Kawana Centre. Visit Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival.
