AN infamous Main Beach penthouse known for hosting lavish parties with a star-studded guest list including US celebrity Paris Hilton has hit the market for offers over $7 million.

The luxurious apartment at 93/1-9 Hughes Avenue is owned by international entrepreneur and former Gold Coast resident Wayne Sharpe, the founder of trade dollar business, Bartercard and, more recently, Carbon Trade Exchange.

Believed to be the largest penthouse on the Gold Coast, it spans the entire two top floors of the Oscar on Main tower, and has 360-degree ocean and hinterland views.

Bought new by Mr Sharpe for $2 million in 1998, when the The Oscar on Main building was

built by Harry Triguboff, the apartment has hosted a who's who of corporate high-fliers and Hollywood starlets over the years, including socialite Paris Hilton.

Marketed by Mark Stachura, principal of Investment Real Estate Agency, the huge 984 sqm penthouse is considered one of the city's most extravagant and has been customised as the ultimate party pad by its well-heeled owner.

Speaking to media earlier this year, Mr Sharpe said he pulled out all the stops for his birthday soiree, where Ms Hilton was the most famous guest.

A Roman staircase with painted murals and overhead chandelier leads to a private rooftop terrace with a heated 2m-deep pool and eight-person spa, as well as a barbecue area and multiple entertaining deck.

Inside, soaring 3.2m ceilings and full-length windows maximise the breathtaking views, with spacious living areas opening onto deep balconies.

There is a well-appointed bar, billiard table and state-of-the-art Sonos sound system wired throughout the property worth more than $150,000, while a three-tonne coral reef saltwater fish tank - thought to be the largest in the southern hemisphere - is an eye-opener.

"This is one of the largest and most extravagant penthouses on the Gold Coast due to all its features, and with the 360-degree views and no neighbours it has been designed really well as a party penthouse," Mr Stachura said.

"The owner is a good guy who loves a party. He knows how to enjoy life and there have been numerous parties held here at the penthouse that will go down in Gold Coast history.

"The upper decks alone have hosted more than 150 people, but the rooftop terrace with its own swimming pool is the piece de resistance," he said.

The sky home includes four double-sized bedrooms, each with a balcony and ensuite, and four security car parking spaces downstairs.

The master suite is equally swish, with a mirrored bedhead, private lounge and balcony, his and hers walk-in robe, and a marble ensuite bathroom with spa.

Privacy is assured by a lift arriving to the penthouse's exclusive foyer, with around-the-clock video monitoring and security alarm system for added peace of mind.

Ms Hilton's international itinerary has included several visits to the Glitter Strip since 2005, when she stayed on the Coast for three months to film House of Wax.

She stayed at the five-star Palazzo Versace hotel in 2009, reportedly flying into the coast from Sydney on former world motorcycle champion Mick Doohan's private jet.

The penthouse has been subject to a number of marketing campaigns since 2006, but to date has not changed hands.

In the 24 hours since lisiting on realestate.com.au, Mr Stachura said he had fielded an, "unbelievable amount of inquiry", with three prominent business people scheduled to inspect the trophy property this weekend.
