IPSWICH will once again host "Battle in the Switch", a major CrossFit event that will see 350 athletes compete over two days.

The event will take place at the Ipswich Showgrounds all weekend and will showcase some of Queensland's fittest athletes.

CrossFit Ipswich owner Sean Irving said the event had expanded rapidly since its inception.

"When we started the Battle in the Switch in 2009 we had 60 competitors, now we have 400 registered athletes," he said.

"There will be four workouts on Saturday and two on Sunday that increase in intensity and complexity.

"Spectators are welcome on the day, there'll be a market with healthy food and drink vendors."

This year profits from the event will be donated to the Commando Welfare Trust fund to support soldier's families in times of hardship.

"The popularity of CrossFit is increasing on a daily basis, we have four locations in Ipswich and there's room enough for another four, we've noticed a huge increase in membership," Mr Irving said.

"By having a coach on the floor your movement, application and motivation are all monitored.

"We know all our members by name and we know their stories, where they come from."

Battle in the Switch will offer more than $6000 in prize money to those who take first place in the competitions and encourages people of all different fitness levels to compete.

CrossFit coach Rachelle McCarroll will be amongst those competing in the Battle in the Switch ."I like how CrossFit changes people's lives," she said.

"I would say to people, don't knock it until you try it - it really works."
