AN Ipswich child care centre was evacuated this afternoon after smoke began to build up.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service says a crew rushed to the Karana Downs Childcare Centre on College Rd about 12.40pm.

On arrival, firefighters traced the smoke back to an air-conditioner.

There was no structural damage and all occupants were accounted for.

Firefighters made the scene safe and left about 1.15pm.
