AN Ipswich man in his mid-20s has been airlifted from the scene of a high-speed beach motorcycle crash on Fraser Island this morning.
It is believed the man and his father were riding their motorcycles at speed along the beach near Indian Head, when he hit a washout and was thrown over his handlebars.
The man's bike cartwheeled on top of him, causing a number of injuries, the most severe of which was a fractured leg.
The Bundaberg RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to fly to the scene at 7.20am and arrived overhead shortly after.
Due to the conditions, the crew were unable to land the helicopter on the beach and instead winched a paramedic down to the man.
Once the patient was stabilised, the patient was stretcher winched back into the aircraft.
He was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
