ISAAC Regional Council celebrated Australia Day in the true outback spirit on Wednesday, as patriotic residents attended activities and ceremonies throughout the region.

Sharon Ward has been an active member of the Isaac Regional Council community since 1987.

She has worked tirelessly as treasurer and grants procurer for Nebo Community Fitness Incorporation and volunteered for countless community organisations.

For that, Sharon was awarded the Isaac Regional Council Citizen of the Year award.

Jo-Ann and Angela McLaughlin have overcome adversity to become the Young Citizens of the Year at the celebrations in Moranbah.

Jo-Ann and Angela are visually impaired, and while that may stop some from living a full life, both girls have proven to be active community members, dedicating countless hours to the Isaac radio station, 4RFM.

Together, they have kept the Moranbah community up-to-date with the latest issues including domestic violence, youth suicide, Movember and many community events.

The popular Clermont Show took Community Event of the Year honours for its annual showcase of the Isaac region’s diversity.

In 2010, the Clermont Show hosted more than 500 competitors and boasted crowds of more than 3500 people from across the area.
