It ain't no '80s piece of s***': Coast's very own supercar

REVIEWS of the Coast's very own supercar vary depending on who you ask in Jason Overland's house.

His desire for the limited-edition racers was ignited during his late teens in Caloundra when he saw Giacattolos being tested around town.

Italian for "toy", only 15 Giacattolos were built in the late 1980s.

Their precision engineering and mid-mounted V8 engine proved too much for Mr Overland to resist and he bought one from its original owner about two years ago.

While he fusses over its immaculate appearance, his wife Jodie is less glowing in her appraisal.

Mr Overland said she was more inclined to refer to it as "that 80s piece of s***".

"She doesn't get it," Mr Overland said.

He has organised a reunion of Australia's remaining Giocattolo's to coincide with the release of supercar designer Barry Lock's latest model, the Aero, in August.

The Caloundra Supercar Event will also serve as a fundraiser for Inclusive Kids, a Coast-based program for disadvantaged children.

It will also mark 30 years since Giacattolos started rolling off the Caloundra production line.

Cars will be on display at the Caloundra Events Centre from 11am on August 12, with a supercar cocktail dinner to be held that evening.

Tickets for the display event will be available on the day while tickets for the cocktail dinner can be purchased from Coast charity IFYS on 5438 3000 or by emailing Clint Lovell on clovell@inclusivekids.com.au.

Then on August 13 cars will travel to Lakeside Raceway to be on display with a range of other vehicles involved in the Lakeside Classic.
