Top quality service Mantra up for grabs

IT STARTED with a vision, determination and an empty shell.

Today, it stands a groovy beach town cafe, bustling with customers and a menu to melt in your mouth.

But for owner Reena Gamble, it is time to say goodbye to her pride and joy.

Mantra Cafe in Yamba is up for sale and while it is heartbreaking for her to let it go, Mrs Gamble said it was time to move on to their next chapter.

"My husband got a transfer to Wagga Wagga so he moves there next week, and I will move next month," she said.

"If my husband wasn't leaving, I wouldn't ever sell it. Never ever."

The former Brisbane chef moved to Yamba two and a half years ago, and when she couldn't find work, she decided to create her own.

"When we first bought it, it was absolutely nothing. Two empty rooms," she said.

Proud of how far she has brought the business, including claiming a finalist position in the Australia's Cafe of the Year competition in 2014, Mrs Gamble said she hoped a buyer with a passion for the industry would take over the reins.

"I have had lots of inquiries and about seven or eight people come in and want to buy it, but they want me to work for them, which I can't because I am moving," she said.

"I just hope someone who knows what they're doing buys it because I would hate for Mantra to close down two months after I sold it.

"It really is a great business, it's in a good spot, it's all set up, so it would be really easy for someone who knows what they're doing to just slip in."

If the cafe is not sold by the end of next month, Mrs Gamble said she would close the doors and return in school holidays to run the cafe until it had new owners.

While in Wagga Wagga, she hopes to slip into a totally different industry of which she is trained and has a Masters of Biotechnology.

"I was doing medicine back home so I might go back into that or at least something in that field."
