Cold and rainy days ahead

IT’S not very good news in the weather department for those wanting to take advantage of the long weekend, as the cold snap and rain is set to continue over coming days.

Bureau of Meteorology weather forecaster Michael Marrinan said Emerald residents could expect some cool to cold days ahead, with cloudy, windy and rainy conditions.

With rain developing over today and tomorrow, Mr Marrinan said it would start to break to showers on Monday.

“We will be looking at maximum temperatures below average,” he said.

“The average temperature for Emerald at this time of the year is 23.4 degrees, so we will definitely be looking at five to 10 degrees below average.”

For those with plans to head out on the water, Mr Marrinan said it wouldn’t be the best idea with uncomfortable conditions predicted.

“Winds will be moderate to fresh and south-west to south-easterly,” he said.

“Not really good news for people wanting to get away for the last long weekend in a while.”

Mr Marrinan said there were no warnings current and the winds over the next few days would make temperatures feel a bit brisk.

“With a bit of breeze around it always feels colder,” he said.
