It’s crook when hook cramps your style

GOOD NEWS: Paula and Bridgette Powers of Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue will score a new shade shed for injured seabirds.

WITH a fisherman's tackle embedded in his wing, Josh the pelican was stuck between a hook and a hard place, but had luck on his side.

The pelican was captured and taken to Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue, Landsborough, where owners Paula and Bridgette Powers set to work on his damaged wing.

Later that day Josh was released, hook-free, back to his Maroochy River home.

The heartfelt story inspired local business owner Allan Lear to action and so on Wednesday, the Transportable Shade Sheds, Hahn Group and Saver6 director will donate a new shade shed enclosure to help continue Twinnies' work.

"We're over the moon and so appreciate it," Paula said.

The Twinnies are a volunteer organisation which provides a 24/7 rescue and rehabilitation service for birds and other native animals and relies on community support to remain in operation.

At any one time they can have 100 birds in their care, and Paula said the new shed would be used to house birds once they were well enough to leave intensive care.

They're looking for more volunteers. Phone 5439 9995 or 0421 476 561. or go to http://www.twinnies.com.au.
