Jaiden lines up against the best

FORMER South Lismore soccer player Jaiden Walker will again line up against some of the country's best young players.

Jaiden will step out for the Northern NSW Institute of Sport at the Under-15 Football Federation Australia State Institute Challenge.

The competition goes from Monday to Saturday next week in Canberra.

Jaiden, 15, had his first taste of playing at this level last year after moving to Newcastle to further his education and soccer skills.

The challenge of playing against the pick of Australia's emerging talent is something that appeals to the Warners Bay High School student.

"I'm pretty thrilled to play against some of the best players in my age group," the right back said.

"I was a younger player last year and it was a pretty intense level of soccer.

"We finished third-last then but a couple of things didn't go our way.

"This time I want to be picked in the All Stars team they'll name at the end of the tournament."

The All Stars will take on the winning team from the final.

All Australian States and territories will field an institute team.

Jaiden has excelled since moving to Newcastle, constantly learning things against bigger and stronger opponents.

"My Institute team took on other Newcastle clubs at under-23 level this year and the level of competition was much higher than I was used to," he said.

"The workload is intense - we train three times a week and then play."

But it all augers well for where Jaiden wants to be in few years.

"My aim is to play in the A-League," he said.

"It would be nice to play for the Newcastle Jets down here or any other team at that level."
