'Jail in the community' for BWM chase
HIGH on paint and adrenalin from early morning burglaries, William John Noel Compton took police on a two-hour chase around Brisbane and Ipswich in a luxury BMW on Easter Monday.
This week, after three months behind bars, he was ordered to complete a 12-month intensive correction order, also known as jail in the community.
The Ipswich teen, 17, pleaded guilty in the Murri Court - which sentences Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders alongside elders, family and other respected persons - at Brisbane Magistrates Court to a host of offences related to the police chase and other burglary charges over Easter.
The Riverview teen drove through a red light, drove over a roundabout, sped through suburban streets, drove at two police cars and drove on a footpath to avoid interception.
His actions were captured on media cameras from helicopters charting the chase in the sky.
Compton was arrested in a dramatic arrest at a Brisbane shopping centre.
He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
