THE STATE election stalemate is putting the future of Borallon Correctional Centre on hold for the time being.

The former jail was closed in January 2012, following the construction of the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre at Gatton, but the former LNP government opted for a $57.3 million refurbishment.

At the time, the government said the mothballed jail would house 500 male prisoners and create 200 jobs when it reopened in the 2015-16 financial year.

A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman said that while tenders for the management contract had been received, no further decisions would be made while the government was in caretaker mode.
